8-year-old Nisanur Ateş , who was diagnosed with autism when he was only 1.5 years old in Konya , impresses with his talent at the piano. Rabia Ateş , the mother of the little girl who had the opportunity to play the piano with the famous pianist Evgeny Grinko last month , said, “We went through very difficult times. When we were first diagnosed, we went to Ankara by train for a year. We had financial difficulties from time to time and shared half a loaf of bread with Nisanur. But it was worth it.” “There have been great changes in my daughter thanks to the training she has received. My daughter feels very happy at the piano. We want her to continue her education in this field,” he said.

Within the scope of the social responsibility project by Selçuklu Municipality, the Selçuklu Autistic Individuals Education Center (SOBE) was built on an area of 21 thousand square meters in 2016 for individuals with autism to receive education and rehabilitation. A foundation with the same name was established to carry out the educational activities of the center, which includes horse riding, swimming pool, gyms and classes where one-on-one training is provided. As of today, 190 special students are studying at the education center, which is in demand from many parts of Turkey and the world.

‘WE SHARED HALF BREAD WITH MY DAUGHTER’
One of the students who came to SOBE was 8-year-old Nisanur Ateş. Nisanur, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 1.5, met SOBE about 3.5 years ago after receiving education in some institutions in Ankara and Konya. Rabia Ateş, mother of Nisanur, who made significant progress with the education she received here, said: “We started to see differences in Nisanur after 13 months. He would not look at us, he would run away from us. Since my previous two children were healthy, autism never came to our mind.

I started taking him to the doctor and he was diagnosed with autism when he was 18 months old. We went to the center in Ankara for training for a year. We traveled back and forth by train two days a week for a year. Other passengers on the train were saying, ‘This girl also grew up on the train.’ He was having a great crisis on the train. He wanted to visit the wagons and was covering his ears because of the noise. Over time, he started to socialize and get used to the train. He was also receiving training in Konya. We had financial difficulties, but we did not give up. My wife said, ‘I need a father to tell me I don’t have a house’ and we sold our house. We shared half a loaf of bread with Nisanur while traveling to and from Ankara. But thank God we came this far,” he said.
