Dear friends and cherished supporters,
I am thrilled today to release “Melting,” the first single from my upcoming album Winter Moonlight.
“Melting” for me represents the border between melancholy and calmness, symbolized by that moment of a morning where the sky is not quite bright yet but we are clearly past dawn. The melancholy night has past and is melting into the day.
I discovered the first notes for “Melting” written down in an accordion I bought at a flea market in Istanbul. The accordion is from 1934 and inside upon purchase I noticed a scrap of old sheet
music. The sheet was yellow and worn, and the notes were barely decipherable. I was inspired – I wanted the composition created from these initial notes to have an adventure like the accordion must have had in the 90 years since its creation.
In order to achieve the special feeling of this elusive moment of the day, I composed the string part for 3 violas. The track was recorded at exactly this moment of the day at my home in Istanbul. The video, recorded on a hill outside my home in Istanbul, also tries to capture this elusive moment. I think we may have been a bit too late! Can you see how windy it was while filming the video??
I hope you enjoy and I look forward to sharing further Winter Moonlight treats with you soon!
With gratitude,
Evgeny Grinko
