I discovered the first notes for “Melting” written down in an accordion I bought at a flea market in Istanbul. The accordion is from 1934 and inside upon purchase I noticed a scrap of old sheet music. The sheet was yellow and worn, and the notes were barely decipherable. I was inspired – I wanted the composition created from these initial notes to have an adventure like the accordion must have had in the 90 years since its creation.
